Course Projects
Cyse 600: Cybersecurity Principles:
This course provides an overview of the field of cybersecurity. It is the first course for students in the Masters of Science (MS) in Cybersecurity program. Cybersecurity Principles covers core cybersecurity topics including computer system architectures, critical infrastructures, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, cryptographic protocol design, information assurance, network security, and risk assessment and management. Students are expected to become familiar with fundamental security concepts, technologies and practices, and develop a foundation for further study in cybersecurity.
Analytical Paper Assignment
For this particular assignment students were asked to submit a long paper on any cybersecurity topic and relate its importance to the career field. I chose to write about "Cyber Crime". This paper highlights the various threat actors involved in cyber crime, the tools used by those threat actors, the motivate behind cyber crime and ways to mitigate the threats.
Course Reflection
I appreciated this course tremendously because it provided me an excellent foundation for cybersecurity. Many students may view this class as redundant because they have that prior knowledge of cybersecurity; however, for me coming from a contrasting background, the realm of cybersecurity was very new to me. This class helped me obtain a more distinct understanding of cybersecurity principles such as the CIA triad, risk assessment, critical infrastructures, different malevolent threats and threat actors, and much more. This class played a substantial role in me being able to obtain my Security + certification, and I am grateful that the program provides this course for students.
